Baobab LMS is a completely new approach to micro-learning. It is all video-based and  covers concepts and applications in commercial software such as Petex IPM and KAPPA workstation. This unique method allows effective learning for Petroleum Engineering wherever and whenever you need it, i.e. performance support or help at the moment of need.

In this ” All Content” section, information is presented in the form of a searchable, digital library (or knowledge base) – informal learning, available 24/7 on any device. Assessments in the form of tests allow the award of digital badges (using Mozilla’s Open Badges standard) that correspond to skills and competency sets for Production and Reservoir engineers at three levels (awareness/knowledge, skill and mastery).

Whether you’re an experienced professional or just starting out, good training is vital to your success – but how much will you remember of that one-off training course? How up to date is the information you search for online? With Baobab, there’s another way to learn.

Introduction

Introduction starts with a comprehensive overview of the capabilities and features of Baobab. We look at the global energy industry, production and consumption and energy types, and then review the history and role of the Petroleum Industry. Finally, a discussion of the best books and other resources to help with your Petroleum Engineering learning.

Foundations

Foundations covers the key concepts at the heart of Petroleum Engineering. Starting with the areas where most errors are made (data measurement quality, units and datums) we progress through fluid and rock properties and show how these are used to predict oil, gas and water flowrates and estimate reserves.

Well Performance

Well performance includes a review of the core components of pressure loss in the well system (reservoir, wellbore and surface flowlines) and how these can be combined to predict well flowrates (nodal analysis). We also look at how artificial lift can increase production rates and examine in detail the major methods used (gas lift, ESPs, PCPs, HSPs, sucker rod pumps and jet pumps). To show these concepts in practice, we review well modelling (or nodal analysis) applications with commercial software including the design and diagnosis of artificial lift systems.

Reservoir Performance

In reservoir performance we cover the key concepts in reservoir engineering that enable reservoir performance prediction (production profiles, recovery factor etc.). These include the energy support (or drive) mechanisms naturally present (primary) and those methods that are introduced to increase recovery (secondary and tertiary). We will look at reservoir modelling using analytical techniques such as material balance and show how data from pressure transient analysis (well testing) can improve the model. To show these concepts in practice, we review reservoir modelling applications with commercial software.

Network and Field Performance

Network and field performance covers the interactions of wells and pipelines and optimisation of oil or gas flowrates subject to constraints. When linked to reservoir models, the network model becomes predictive with time allowing forecasting of production profiles, timing changes of production and injection wells etc. In this section we cover the concepts of network and integrated production systems modelling and then the application in commercial software.
