Course Price: € 295

This is a short, intense course covering an introduction and definition of unconventional reservoir analysis. You will see the characteristics of unconventional reservoirs, including a shale overview, and typical rock and typical fluid properties. We will look at the decline curve models and production and reserves predictions. You will practice the application of the theory using Citrine and Topaze software from KAPPA Engineering. IChemE accredited course (14 CPD hours).

Who’s it for?

. . . anyone desiring to understand the new techniques involved in unconventional reservoir analysis and how these are applied in commercial software.

Course length

2 days classroom equivalent.

  1. List the main types and characteristics of unconventional reservoirs and explain how they are defined
  2. Identify key reservoir rock and fluid properties for unconventional reservoirs and explain how this influences the fluid flow regimes
  3. Compare and contrast the different methods used for decline curve analysis in unconventional reservoirs. Explain how these differ from traditional methods
  4. Categorise the production decline characteristics for multi-fractured horizontal wells in shale reservoirs. Explain how to estimate remaining reserves for each well and field
  5. Describe the recommended workflow for unconventional reservoir analysis. Illustrate with practical applications for field performance matching and prediction (Citrine, Topaze)

On completion of the final course exam you will receive a certificate of completion of your course. Recognised by major players in the industry across the world, these certificates will help to confirm your training record and your progress within the profession. Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) approved training course.

    • Skills and competencies:

Digital badges are awarded upon the successful completion of a set of skills (micro-credentials) that form a competency set for Production and Reservoir Engineers.

    • Earn credits towards a Masters Degree in Petroleum Production Engineering.

Upon successful completion of a module (set of courses), a certificate will be issued. This can be used as evidence for requesting module exemption under Robert Gordon University’s Recognition of Certified Prior Learning (RCPL) when applying for entry to the M.Sc. in Petroleum Production Engineering. Please note undertaking these Baobab courses does not guarantee RPCL.
